📞 Why Your Number Might Show Up as “Spam Risk” — And What You Can Do About It
Published by the PENGUIN Support Team
In an effort to protect consumers from scam calls and robocallers, major carriers and third-party call screening services now label certain incoming calls with warnings such as “Spam Risk”, “Scam Likely,” or “Potential Fraud.”
Unfortunately, legitimate businesses — including those using PENGUIN phone service — may sometimes be mistakenly flagged this way. This guide will help you understand why this happens and what steps you can take to prevent or resolve it.
There are two primary reasons this happens:
High Call Volume Detected
Carriers and anti-spam apps use algorithms that flag numbers making a high volume of outbound calls in a short time, especially to numbers that don’t answer or are geographically diverse.
User Complaints or Negative Feedback
If recipients repeatedly mark your number as spam (even mistakenly), it can quickly trigger a flag with carriers or blocking apps.
Register Your Numbers with the Free Caller Registry
This is the best starting point. Register your business numbers here:

This process shares your info with Hiya, TNSI, and First Orion — the three major reputation monitoring partners used by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
Use Good Call Practices
Avoid calling the same numbers repeatedly in a short timeframe, and never hang up on recipients without engaging. Even if your call is legitimate, a frustrating experience can result in a report.
Ask Customers to Save Your Number
Many call-blocking apps reject unknown numbers by default. Encouraging customers to save your number ensures better delivery and reduces the chance of a flag.
Consider Using Alternate or Rotating Caller IDs
For high-volume calling teams, rotating through multiple registered numbers can prevent any one number from being flagged too frequently.
Understand Calling Laws and Best Practices
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly those governing telemarketing and consent-based outreach.
The fastest workaround is to use a different, valid caller ID number for your outbound calls. However, if that’s not practical, you may try to remove the label using the official carrier tools listed below:
